1st Annual St. Andrew's Ceilidh
St. Andrew is not only the Patron Saint of Scotland, but also Russia, Greece, Italy's Amalfi, and Barbados. He is also the Patron Saint of singers, spinsters, maidens, fishermen, fishmongers, women wanting to be mothers, gout and sore throats.
He is also the Patron Saint of "The Order of the Thistle", one of the highest ranks of Chivalry in the world, second only to the Order of the Garter
St. Andrew's Day is celebrated on November 30th, the day in 60 AD, that the Roman governor Aegeas crucified him on an X-shaped cross, which is represented by the white cross on the Saltire, (the Scottish flag).
Although it is generally thought that St. Andrew never set foot in Scotland, (some say he actually built a church at St Andrews) he has been revered there since about 1000 AD, and became Scotland's official Patron Saint with the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320.
